Kroger’s (NYSE:KR) employees and union members in Virginia are preparing to go on strike.
The move applies to 41 stores in the Roanoke, Va. area with 1,100 employees coming from the United Food, while 400 are part of the Commercial Workers Local union.
The company said it is looking to avoid a strike and it is working with the organizations to find a deal that works for everyone. Kroger’s spokeswoman Anne Jenkins says the company is drafting a new contract.
“Kroger remains committed to providing all associates a solid and competitive pay and benefits package in this next contract,” she said.
The potential strikers are looking for Kroger’s to increase the wages of its employees.
KR stock is up 1.3% Thursday.
