It’s no secret that there is often a lot of “talk” in the stock market – many times we see stocks make big moves on headlines that may or may not be completely true. The latest news item to come out of the rumor mill has to do with Tesla (TSLA) potentially going private. This is a stock I have been following for years, so I wanted to share my thoughts on the recent buzz. Ultimately, I do not believe that whether TSLA is a public or private entity will have an effect on its long-term potential. That said, you can look at this from two different perspectives.

I do a lot of my shopping online, so I pay close attention to product reviews. There is one on Amazon (AMZN) that has become somewhat legendary. It was a review of a Wi-Fi thermostat, and while I have no idea if it is real or fake, it’s an entertaining read. The headline is: She Took the House, the Dog and the 401(k) But I Still Control the Thermostat. It was posted nearly four years ago, and according to the reviewer, his ex-wife got some big things in their divorce, including the house. However, she didn’t change any passwords, allowing him to continue to access the wireless network – and the thermostat.

The old saying goes, “If it was easy, everyone would do it.” This cliché rings true when it comes to big trend investing. Even in today’s high-tech world, finding business and technology ideas with extreme wealth creation potential is still very much a “low-tech” process. So much of it comes down to old-fashioned detective work. It takes a heck of a lot of time, but it’s worth it to get to the big stories before everyone else. And as I’m sure you’ve guessed, it’s one of the things I love to do. I’m always digging deep to uncover the next big trends to invest in, and today I want to share three that are worth considering for your portfolio.

Apple (AAPL) is the winner in the race to become the first U.S. company to hit a market capitalization of $1 trillion. Yes, you read that right – trillion! It’s a remarkable achievement, and it’s pretty cool that there was even a race to that level. Amazon (AMZN) is not far behind at $920 billion, and both Alphabet (GOOGL) and Microsoft (MSFT) have market caps over $8 billion. Facebook (FB) was in the race before it got hit after earnings (although I think that’s a long-term buying opportunity). I was lucky enough to be in New York and appearing live on Yahoo Finance at the very moment AAPL went over the $1 trillion mark. We were already talking about the company when it happened.
