The American Dream for Less

House For Sale SignWe recently brought you a list of the 10 Most Expensive Places to Live in the United States, according to Coldwell Banker Real Estate LLC’s Home Listing Report released Wednesday. It certainly would be difficult to keep up with the Joneses in these priciest of neighborhoods where a modest home can go for well over a million bucks. So now let’s take a look at the most affordable real estate housing markets in the United States.

The Home Listing Report surveys average listing prices for four-bedroom, two-bathroom homes in more than 2,300 North American markets. Markets included in the U.S. report were required to have at least 10 properties fitting the above criteria within the relevant time frame, and in Canada, at least five properties were required. The U.S. average for the surveyed listings was approximately $293,000, but in the 10 most affordable housing markets, the average listing price didn’t even break six figures.
