These Billionaire CEOs Have a Lot in Common

The world’s wealthiest CEOs share a few things in common. All are billionaires, male and have either started companies or at least built them out of almost nothing. Most of them are seasoned business veterans, but there is one who hasn’t yet blown out 30 candles on his birthday cake.

CNBC recently took a look at the richest CEOs in the world, as rated by research firm Wealth-X. Here’s a quick snapshot of the group:

  1. Carlos Slim, 72: The richest man in the world, at $70 billion, hails from Mexico and is the CEO of Grupo Carso (PINK:GPOVY), Telmex and AmericaMovil (NYSE:AMX).
  2. Warren Buffett, 81: Buffett is the CEO of Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE:BRK.B, BRK.A), which has holdings in Coca-Cola (NYSE:KO), Costco (NASDAQ:COST), Moody’s (NYSE:MCO) and American Express (NYSE:AXP). Buffett’s net worth comes to $44.7 billion.
  3. Larry Ellison, 67: The co-founder and CEO of Oracle (NASDAQ:ORCL) also is the third-richest person in the U.S., according to Forbes. Ellison boasts a $35 billion net worth.
  4. Eike Batista, 56: Batista, CEO of EBX, is worth $31.6 billion.
  5. Charles G. Koch, 76: Koch has been at the helm of Koch Industries since 1967. It’s now one of the largest privately owned companies in the U.S., and Koch’s net worth hovers at $24.7 billion.
  6. Sheldon Adelson, 78: The owner of casino company Las Vegas Sands (NYSE:LVS) worked his way up from humble beginnings in Boston and now carries a net worth of $24.6 billion.
  7. Lakshmi Mittal, 61: Lakshmi Mittal is the founder and CEO of the world’s largest steelmaker, ArcelorMittal (NYSE:MT) Mittal is said to be worth $19.1 billion.
  8. Larry Page, 39: Page co-founded Internet search company Google (NASDAQ:GOOG), which he took public in 2004. Page now is worth $18.3 billion.
  9. Mark Zuckerberg, 27: Arguably the most famous person on the list, Zuckerberg, CEO and founder of Facebook, also is the youngest. His net worth sits at $18.1 billion, but that number is expected to rise after Facebook’s IPO.
  10. Aliko Dangote, 55: Dangote is the founder and CEO of Dangote Group, owner of Dangote Cement. His net worth is $11.2 billion.
