Finger-Pointing: Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) will release its long-anticipated television set this year, AppleInsider notes. That prediction comes from Topeka Capital Markets analyst Brian White, who says that the new TV set will be priced between $1,500 and $2,000. The company will also unveil an iRing, a device that slips onto a user’s finger allowing control of the TV’s functions through hand gestures and pointing. White says that the iTV will come with a 60-inch screen, though other sizes are also possible. Additionally, the iTV will include a smaller “mini iTV” — a 9.7-inch handheld display that can be used for video calling or viewing content. Recent reports suggested that Apple is developing a television set with a 4K Ultra HD display. Various analysts have predicted the launch of an Apple-branded TV set for more than a year.

Starting Now: Apple will begin manufacturing its next-generation iPhone 5S during the current calendar quarter, the Wall Street Journal notes. The new iPhone is expected to be similar in size and design to the iPhone 5, which debuted last October. However, it will likely feature upgraded components and a new version of iOS. Sources say the iPhone 5S is being readied for a summer launch. Along with the iPhone 5S, Apple is also collaborating with manufacturing partners to create a less expensive iPhone aimed at emerging markets. The cheaper iPhone could be released in a variety of colors like the company’s popular iPods.

No Used MP3s: A U.S. District Court judge has ruled that digital music downloads cannot be resold to other users, AllThingD notes. Universal Music Group sued technology start-up ReDigi, which permitted MP3 owners to transmit and sell their digital music files. ReDigi argued that reselling used MP3s was little different from reselling used CDs, books or DVDs. However, the judge disagreed, issuing a partial judgement in Universal Music Group’s favor. The parties are scheduled to return to court later this month.
