You’re Never Too Old to Nap: Top Shelf Spas

We all need a little shut-eye sometimes. Might as well get the best.

You’re Never Too Old to Nap: Top Shelf Spas

Top Shelf showcases luxury vacations, goods, restaurants and more that you can indulge in after your investing pays off.

TopShelf 3 You're Never Too Old to Nap: Top Shelf SpasWhile investing in the markets is all well and good, investing in yourself can be equally important.

I’m not talking about learning new skills or furthering your education. Those things aren’t bad, of course, but I actually believe just a little time off here and there might be just as valuable. We live in a world where busyness is applauded, stress seems chronic and unplugging often feels impossible, making a break for both the body and mind a savvy — not lazy — way to spend your time.

Luckily, once years of saving extra pennies and stressing over your portfolio have paid off, you’ll have even more options of where and how to let off some steam.

Personally, I plan to hit up a Ritz-Carlton spa.

Why? For the naps, of course.

When I was nearing the end of my college years, everyone began talking about all the things they would miss about the supposed “best four years of your life” — with topics ranging from friends to parties to sports. The thing I miss the most? Having a schedule where I can sneak in a nap between activities.

Well, when I made my way to the Ritz-Carlton’s spa page, I clicked on “Signature Treatments” and saw a service called “Drift to Sleep” that contained my go-to phrase “power nap.”

I was sold.

When the Ritz tossed in warmed treatment table as the bed, I was in heaven. It’s like college (or kindergarten, for those of you who didn’t spend the first year of your twenties taking daily siestas) for adults. Well … rich adults.

Before the nap, you get pampered — as you would expect at a Ritz. The “specialized journey designed to help you let go” starts with a body scrub, milk bath and sleep massage before the real power nap begins.

While a price is hard to pin down, the location in Naples, Fla., offers the eight-minute option as Thursday’s daily special for a hefty $185. Any other day, and that will cost you $240. An additional half-hour adds another $55.

That’s just one option on the spa menu. Again, the specifics will depend on the location you choose, but personalized massages, manicure and pedicures, jet-lag therapy and even private yoga sessions are a few common treatments.

That brings us to another perk of attending a spa in a famous upscale hotel: There are locations around the world to choose from.

It’s hard to predict where I’ll be settled down by the time I can indulge in a luxury nap-done-right (or where I’ll even be in a few weeks or years), but chances are I’ll be able to find — or fly to — a locale that suits my needs. While the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company is actually headquartered right down the road from InvestorPlace in Chevy Chase, Md., it boasts 81 luxury hotels and resorts in 26 countries.

Domestic locations range from Florida to Louisiana to California to Washington, D.C., while China, Turkey, Spain, Russia, Qatar, the Cayman Islands and more are home to this relaxation destination.

So no matter where you are, or how old you are, consider taking in some pampered shut-eye.
