No word: Analysts expecting an update from Apple (AAPL) about the number of iPads it sold over the weekend were disappointed this morning, CNET notes. Apple usually releases sales data at 5:30 a.m. (California time) on the Monday after a product launch. But the company did not issue a release this morning, three days after its fifth-generation iPad Air went on sale. The thinner, slimmer tablet features an A7 processors and borrows design elements from the iPad Mini. Apple might wait until the Retina iPad Mini hits store shelves later this month to release iPad sales figures. In September, Apple announced that it had sold a record 9 million iPhones during the first week after the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c were launched. Gene Munster, an analyst with Piper Jaffray, estimates that Apple sold between 2.5 million and 3.5 million iPads over the weekend.

Departure: The man who oversaw engineering for iOS has left the company, 9to5Mac notes. Henri Lamiraux, Apple’s former top Vice President of Engineering says he had planned to retire after the release of iOS 7 and stepped down last month. Lamiraux managed the development of applications included in iOS. Starting at Apple as Mac software engineer 23 years ago, Lamiraux joined the iOS team around 2005.

Alliance: Apple and Google (GOOG) should be working together, according to the iPad-maker’s co-founder, the BBC notes. In an interview, Steve Wozniak, who built Apple’s early computers, said that he wished “to God that Apple and Google were partners in the future.” He said that if he were still involved with the company’s management such a partnership “would be pretty likely,” though he conceded that “there’s probably an awful lot I don’t know about the business concerns, and one thing you’ve got to remember is a company has always got to make money.” Woz also noted that he was looking forward to smartwatches that use “organic LED displays” printed on plastic that “could be on the inside of your arm and then when you flip your arm up it could actually flip open into your own hand.” Apple is rumored to be developing a smartwatch that could debut next year.
