Olive Garden, My Gym Team Up for Night of Free Babysitting

Olive Garden (DRI), the casual Italian dining chain, is offering free baby-sitting for any parents who dine at one of its participating restaurants across the country.

OliveGarden-DRI-stockThe move is a promotion between Olive Garden and My Gym, a chain of children’s daycare and activity centers.

The offer allows parents to drop off children for free at one of the 145 My Gym locations (one that’s participating).

Parents must return with their Olive Garden receipt for the “free” baby-sitting to work.

Also, some caveats:

The deal runs from 6 to 9 p.m., but details vary by location. Each My Gym location can babysit up to 30 kids, so if Olive Garden if popular in your area, best to get there early. My Gym requires a deposit, which is then returned at the end of the evening.

“With busy family schedules and everyone always on the go, it’s challenging for parents to find time for a date night out,” Jay Spenchian, executive vice president of marketing for Olive Garden said in a press statement.

The idea seems to be a great one for both chains, however the restaurants may have missed their mark by offering the deal on Feb. 7 instead of Feb. 14 — Valentine’s Day.

Olive Garden is asking parents to share their experiences on Facebook and Twitter using the hashtag #OGParentsNightOut.

Meanwhile, DRI stock has had its ups and down in the new year, down 8% year to date.

DRI stock is up 7% from this time last year.
