The Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM), a London-based group, warns that using the device while driving could result in crashes. The issue with the Apple Watch is similar to the one with drivers using smartphones. However, the Watch could be more dangerous as it requires two hands to use, which could be bring additional distractions to drivers, reports The Daily Mail.

The United Kingdom’s Department for Transport says that use of an Apple Watch while driving will carry the same penalty as using a smartphone while driving. This could result in two years in jail if the Watch owner causes a death due to reckless driving. In America, some states could fine Watch owners $10,000 and hit them with a year in jail for using the device while driving, The Daily Mail notes.

It has to be emphasised that anything causing even momentary distraction for the driver is not a welcome addition,”  Neil Greig, director of policy and research at IAM, told International Business Times.”While smartwatches might be the next big fashion accessory, there is nothing fashionable about a device that distracts you when behind the wheel.
