Friday Apple Rumors: iPhone 6 and 6 Plus Put Through Drop Tests

The new Apple (AAPL) devices were put through three different types of drop tests. This included being dropped on their sides, backs and fronts. The iPhone 6 survived its side and back drop tests with little to no damage. When dropped on its front, the device’s screen was covered in cracks. The iPhone 6 Plus survived being dropped on its back, but its screen cracked when it was dropped on it side. However, dropping it on its front after this didn’t add much more damage.

Siri: iOS 8 allows users to ask Siri to identify songs for them, AppleInsider notes. Siri works with Shazam to identify a song and will also offer the user a link that will lead to a paid download of the track. Users can uses phrases such as “What song is this?” and “What’s currently playing?” to prompt Siri to listen to and identify a song. The Siri, Shazam team up wasn’t working when Apple launched iOS 8 on Wednesday, but it was reported to be working today.

Breakdown: With the release of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, some sources have already started tearing Apple’s devices apart to discover what’s inside them, 9to5Mac notes. What breakdowns of the devices have revealed is that the A8 chip used in the smartphones are provided by Taiwan Semiconductor (TSM). There were several other parts that were identified during breakdowns and battery comparisons between the new devices were made. Shortly after the device was release, iFixit started a live stream that showed them taking the devices apart.
