James Thomson, the creator of the PCalc app, was told that his calculator widget would be removed from the App Store because calculator widgets aren’t allowed on iOS 8. However, Apple cahnged it’s mind and decided to let his widget and all other calculator widgets stay, reports TechCrunch.

It’s unknown exactly why Apple changed its stance on PCalc. In a bit of irony, the widget was actually featured in the App Store’s “Notification Center Widgets” when Thomson was told to remove it, TechCrunch notes.

PCalc is an app that is over 20 years old. It got its start on Mac as Thomson’s project to create a more powerful calculator for his own personal use. PCalc is actually short for “Programmers’ Calculator.” The app also has a nod to Douglas Adams, author of The Hitch Hiker’s Guide To The Galaxy, with 42 being shown in the app’s logo.
