The first prototype of the Google (GOOG) self-driving car has been unveiled.

The Google self-driving car was revealed in a blog post on Google+. An earlier version of the vehicle was shown off in May, but it was only a mockup.  The version revealed on Google+ takes everything the company has been working on and puts it together into one package.

According to the Google+ blog post, the Google self-driving car will be tested on a test track over the holidays. The new vehicle is expected to start test runs on the streets of Northern California in 2015.

While the Google self-driving car is being tested, it will still include manual controls. The manual controls are temporary and will be removed from the vehicle once the tests are complete.

GOOG shares were up 1% as of Tuesday afternoon.
