According to Sony, PlayStation Network was down on Tuesday due to “heavy traffic”. The company said that the traffic started causing lag for several players before it grew to the point that there was an outage, reports International Business Times.

The PlayStation Network outage started at 6:00 p.m. Eastern Time on Tuesday. The company reports that the service was back up at 9:34 p.m. Eastern Time, but International Business Times claims it didn’t come back on until almost four hours later. The service will be taken down on Thursday for maintenance.

Tomorrow’s PlayStation Network maintenance will start at 12:00 p.m. Eastern Time and is scheduled to last until 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Users that are signed into the service prior to the maintenance will still be able to play online, but the PlayStation Store will be down, reports VentureBeat.
