Google to Teach Computer Coding to 100K NYC Kids

Google (GOOG,GOOGL) is rolling out a program to teach computer coding to NYC children.

The company is working with New York Mayor John de Blasio to teach CS First, a program designed to teach kids how to code. More than 100,000 NYC children will have access to the program.

It is part of de Blasio’s $10 million initiative that teaches science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) to young students. The program is being offered to 857 afterschool programs across the five New York boroughs.

“At Google, we aim to inspire young people around the world not to just use technology but to create it,” said William Floyd, head of external affairs at Google New York.

GOOG stock is down 0.8% Tuesday. GOOGL stock is down 0.8%.
