GNC Holdings (NYSE:GNC) has agreed to go to greater lengths when testing its herbal supplements as part of a settlement with New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman.

gnc-herbal-supplements-new-york-attorney-generalThe end of the dispute between New York’s Attorney General and GNC means that the company’s herbal supplements will be returning to store shelves in the state. Tests showed that the company’s products are safe and it agreed to perform more strenuous tests on them than what the Food and Drug Administration requires, reports Reuters.

The reason behind the GNC tests was because one test of its products failed to identify plant DNA that was listed as being in the product. GNC isn’t being forced to pay any kind of monetary damages in the case and is only required to start a reform on its testing processes, Reuters notes.

Schneiderman released a statement on Monday saying that he hopes all other retailers will follow GNC’s example and increase transparency behind their herbal supplement products, reports The Wall Street Journal.
