Oyster, a subscription-based e-book service, just opened an online e-book store.

oyster-amazon-amznOyster’s online store for e-book’s will put the startup in direct competition with Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN). The e-book store holds a few thousands books that are available to members and non-members of its subscription service, reports Mashable.

What really helps Oyster with its e-book store is having signed on all five of the big publishers. Members of the startup’s subscription service, which costs $9.95 a month, have access to millions of books. Amazon is the only other e-book provider that offers a subscription service and e-book store, Mashable notes.

Oyster’s subscription service includes titles from three of the big five publishers. These publishers include HarperCollins, Macmillan and Simon & Schuster. Hachette and Penguin Random House published books can be purchased through the e-book store, reports GeekWire.
