The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is hitting AT&T (T) with a $100-million fine.

att-fined-tThe FCC is fining AT&T for throttling speeds for customers that have unlimited data plans with the wireless carrier. Customers of these plans that go over 5GB of data a month have seen their speeds dramatically reduced, reports Forbes.

AT&T has announced that it plans to fight the fines and claims that it has been completely transparent with its customers. Many customers have complained to the FCC over the dropped speeds and of being locked into a two-year contract with the wireless carrier, Forbes notes.

“Consumers deserve to get what they pay for,” Tom Wheeler, FCC Chairman, told The Los Angeles Times. “The FCC will not stand idly by while consumers are deceived by misleading marketing materials and insufficient disclosure.”
