AT&T Announces Streaming TV Service Coming in 2016

AT&T (NYSE:T) has announced a new TV streaming service in partnership with DirecTV.

AT&TThe carrier announced that it will offer an Internet-based streaming service later this year. The AT&T and DirecTV offering will let you stream videos from smartphones, tablets, smart TVs, set top boxes, PCs, or other devices using a wired or wireless internet connection.

You won’t need an existing DirecTV service plan, set top box, or satellite dish to access the new streaming service. Additionally, no contract stipulations are required.

The service will be offered in three packages: DirecTV Now, DirecTV Mobile, and DirecTV Preview. The Now package will offer the most content, “including much of what is available from DirecTV today,” according to AT&T’s press release.

The Mobile is only for smartphones, and the Preview service will be a free, ad-supported option with limited content options.

T stock is up 1% Tuesday.
