Electronic Arts Inc. (EA) has announced that it will be jumping into e-sports.
EA’s e-sports initiative will be headed by Peter Moore and it will included tournaments for every range of player. This includes the Challenger level for any gamer, Premier tournaments hosted by the company and the EA Majors, which is where world champions will be decided.
Electronic Arts is offering $1 million worth of prize money between the three tournaments mentioned above. The move toward e-sports could be a good decision for EA as its estimated that it will be a $1 billion market by 2019, reports VentureBeat.
Electronic Arts also announced several new games as part of its press conference for E3. This includes Battlefield 1, FIFA 17, Madden 17 and TitanFall 2.
EA shares were down 1% as of Monday morning.
