Walt Disney Co (NYSE:DIS) has released a new trailer for the upcoming Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
The new Rogue One: A Star Wars Story trailer gives fans of the franchise a better look at the plot of the film. It will center around a ground of Rebel spies that set out on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star from the Galactic Empire.
Fans of the Stars Wars series will immediately notice that this film is actually a prequel to the original Star Wars trilogy that was released in the late 1970s and early 1980s. However, it also takes place after the prequel trilogy that started coming out in 1999 and lasted until 2005.
The cast of the new Star Wars film includes Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso, Diego Luna as Cassian Andor, Ben Mendelsohn as Orson Krennic, Donnie Yen as Chirrut Imwe, Alan Tudyk as K-2SO, Jiang Wen as Baze Malbus and Forest Whitaker as Saw Gerrera.
The new Rogue One: A Star Wars Story trailer was posted to YouTube on Aug. 11, 2016 and had over 3.8 million views as of Aug. 12, 2016. Its release comes roughly 4 months after the first teaser trailer for the film was released.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will appear in theaters on Dec. 16, 2016. It will mark the first time that a theatrical film in the franchise has been released that doesn’t focus on the main story of the series.
