Would you be willing to try Swedish Fish Oreos?

Swedish Fish OreosThe new Nabisco product sounds like an unappetizing hoax, but it is actually happening. The snack creation features the two traditional chocolate Oreo cookies with a red and briny Swedish Fish filling, which has a taste that resembles cherries somehow.

The product will only be available at The Kroger Co (NYSE:KR) stores. Nabisco has been quite adventurous with past cookie creations, including Watermelon, pumpkin and marshmallow-filled treats, but trying to sell Swedish Fish Oreos seems like an attempt to reach a demographic that may not exist.

An Oreo spokesperson said the move offers a “surprising new twist,” as they sometimes choose to “create unexpected and unique flavor combinations that people may never have thought were possible.”

Here are some things that people are saying via Twitter on the prospect of such a snack:

  • “I am your friend who tries all the new disgusting Oreo flavors and this time is no different ,” wrote Cam Escobar, proving that there is a market for the product.
  • Someone thought this was a good idea? Sir, I’ll need you to step away from the test kitchen,” wrote David Bayer.
  • “The people that come up with new insane flavors must be related to the people at that create new filters. ,” notes Amanda Bowman.

Swedish Fish Oreos will be available for a limited time only.

Other bizarre food creations that have been launched recently include the Taco Bell Cheetos Burritos, as well as the BK Whopperrito–a burrito/Whopper hybrid.

KR stock is down 0.9% Thursday.
