Tuesday’s Apple Rumors — Fresh iMacs

Here are your Apple rumors and news items for Tuesday:

Freshly Picked iMacs: Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) new iMac desktop computers feature a host of new key addition from Intel (NASDAQ:INTC). The new quad-core Sandy Bridge processor makes the new iMacs about 70% faster than previous models. Apple’s new desktop device also features an AMD Radeon HD graphics processor, which means that the iMac can output graphics that are, according to Apple Insider, three times better than those seen in the last model. Apple is selling models with a 21.5-inch screen and one with a 27-inch screen.

Macs and iPhones Closer Than Ever: The next big revision of Apple’s Mac operating system is going to make operating a home computers a whole lot more like using one of the company’s handheld devices. Previous reports have said that basic programs, like the iCal calendar app, have received complete makeovers in the new platform to make them look like they do on the iPhone. Mac Rumors says the effort to copy the iPad experience has even extended to how apps are installed or taken off the computer. Someone using the Mac can activate a “Launchpad” app that lets them organize all apps installed on the PC. If there’s something they want to remove, an “X” next to any app in the Launchpad can be clicked to delete it, much like the interface on Apple’s tablet and smartphone.

No More Tracking: BGR reported on Monday that Apple will release a software update for the iPhone and iPad in the next two weeks that will fix the bug that was causing Apple to inadvertently log and store users’ locations. The update is being issued almost exclusively to alter the problems that were causing information detailing consumers’ physical location to be stored in a database. The fixes delete the existing location database and will make it so that the location database is no longer stored in iTunes. The update will also helpfully extend battery life in Apple’s handhelds.
