Gold prices, silver prices and mining stocks are rising in early trading today.
Spot gold and silver prices were both up today, as of the London PM price fix. The price of an ounce of gold was set at $1544.75, which was 75 cents higher than yesterday’s London PM fix. Silver prices hit $36.22 an ounce, 64 cents or 1.8% higher than the previous price. Spot gold prices were trading up at $1544.40 Bid, $1545.40 Ask in early New York trading; spot silver prices were trading higher at $36.35 Bid, $36.45 Ask.
The main gold and silver ETF funds were also trading higher in early morning trade: the SPDR Gold Trust (NYSE: GLD) was up slightly, as was the iShares Gold Trust (NYSE: IAU). The iShares Silver Trust (NYSE: SLV) was up about 1%.
Prices for the main precious metal ETFs were as follows in early trading:
- Market Vectors Gold Miners ETF (NYSE: GDX) was up about 2.3% in early trading today
- Market Vectors Junior Gold Miners ETF (NYSE: GDXJ) was up about 3.3%
- Global X Silver Miners ETF (NYSE: SIL) was up about 3.5%

- Barrick Gold (NYSE: ABX) was up about 1.2%
