Chrysler: Don’t Drive Your 2013 V-6 Dodge Challenger

chrysler-logoSome owners of Chrysler’s 2013 Dodge Challenger have been warned to stop driving their cars and have them returned to dealers for immediate repairs.

The automaker, owned by Italy’s Fiat (PINK:FIATY), is recalling 2,500 of its latest model year Dodge Challengers with V-6 engines produced for two months before January 24 after receiving reports of seven vehicle fires. The fires have been traced to a faulty component in wire harnesses that are vulnerable to over-heating, USA TODAY notes.

In all, 4,459 vehicles are involved in the recall. However, just under 2,000 are still in dealer inventories. The seven fires reported to far did not lead to any injuries.

Challenger models with a V-8 engine are not subject to the recall.

Chrysler will notify Challenger owners by mail and phone. Owners are being warned to keep their vehicles parked outside, away from buildings, to minimize the risk of fire. Temporary transportation will be offered by dealers while the cars are being repaired.

Earlier this month, Japanese automaker Subaru recalled 47,000 vehicles over defective remote starters that could accidently cause the vehicles to start without the owner’s knowledge.

Around the same time, Ford (NYSE:F) recalled roughly 230,000 minivans over rust accumulation in rear wheel wells, which could lead to third row seats slipping while the vehicle is driving.
