Marshall started voicing Tony the Tiger in 1999. He completely replaced Thurl Ravenscroft, who had voiced the cereal mascot since 1952, in 2005.

He died from esophageal cancer on April 26 while at the Santa Monica Hospital in California, reports the Huffington Post. Marshall was 64

Marshall also was a voice actor for several cartoons, and also worked as a DJ, new anchor and sports broadcaster. The Los Angeles Times pointed out a great quip from Los Angeles Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda: “If God ever wanted to make a speech, Lee Marshall would get the call.”

Marshall is survived by his wife, son, stepdaughter and granddaughter, reports Huffington Post.

Kellogg has yet to announce who will replace him as Tony the Tiger, but did say that it will be someone that can emulate his deep voice, Huffington Post notes.
