Katy Perry is the most popular person on Twitter (TWTR) with close to 55 million followers.

Katy Perry

The singer recently took to social media to express her condolences to the UNICEF volunteers who lost their lives aboard the Malaysian Airlines MH17 flight that crashed on the Russia-Ukraine border. However, there were no members of UNICEF on the MH17 flight.

“So INCREDIBLY sad to hear that there were 100 volunteers for @UNICEF on flight #MH17 Sending our prayers to all the families effected,” read Perry’s tweet. She deleted the tweet after being called out on the blunder.

It is unclear how Katy Perry — a UNICEF ambassador — came to this conclusion but the UN program was quick to confirm that there was no UNICEF staff on board.

“Unicef has expressed its deepest condolences for our UN colleagues, and all who died on flight MH17,” the organization said. “Our sympathies go to their families.”

TWTR stock is up close to 0.4% Tuesday morning.
