Two sources that are close to the matter claim that the Amazon wholesale portal in India would be similar to what Walmart (WMT) is doing in the country and what Alibaba is doing in China. Another source claims that the wholesale portal could be lead by the company’s director of category management Samir Kumar and report to Amit Agarwal, the head of the online retailer’s India division, reports The Economic Times.

If Amazon does indeed open a wholesale portal in India, it will be the first time that the company has done such a thing outside of the United States. The online retailer has experienced rapid growth in the country since starting services there in 2012. The India wholesale portal could be similar to the company’s AmazonSupply in the U.S., The Economic Times notes.

AmazonSupply focuses on selling products to businesses. This includes office supplies, electrical equipment and other products that can be used by businesses.
