A rumor spreading around that claims Facebook will introduce a $2.99 subscription fee is false.

The Facebook subscription-fee rumor started when a fake new story from National Report was passed around. National Report is a satirical new websites that reports fake news. The website even states this in its disclaimer, reports ValueWalk.
According to the fake news story, the social media website was going to start charging a subscription fee of $2.99 a month in November for use of its service. The report included made up quotes from CEO Mark Zuckerberg and claimed users could avoid the fee by posting that they were poor, ValueWalk notes.
Facebook has been trying to combat fake news stories like this and is testing a satire tag on its website. The tag would mark stories from statistical news sources, such as The Onion, as being fake.
