A new PicoWay tattoo removal device from Syneron Medical (ELOS) has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FAD).

PicoWay

The tool was released in international markets last month and will be released in the US immediately. The PicoWay product will be featured in The American Society of Dermatological Surgery Meeting in San Diego from Nov. 6 through Nov. 9.

The FDA approved the tattoo removal device following a successful US multicenter study conducted by Eric Bernstein, MD, Arielle Kauvar, MD, and Tina Alster, MD as primary investigators.

Bernstein had the following to say about the PicoWay product:

As a dual wavelength Nd:YAG laser, it delivers extremely high peak-power, picosecond pulses enabling the treatment of all skin types. What this means is extremely impressive results, which translate into very happy patients. PicoWay is a game-changing laser for tattoo removal, and could not have come at a better time.

The FDA approval is for all tattoo colors: red, yellow and orange for the 532nm wavelength; black, brown, green, blue and purple for the 1064nm wavelength.

ELOS stock is up 4.7% Monday afternoon.
