In GTA 5 news today, Target (TGT) and Kmart (SHLD) will not be selling Grand Theft Auto 5 in Australia anymore.

Grand Theft Auto 5

The companies decided to pull the game off shelves following a petition from concerned mothers, condemning the game for its violence and sexual content.

The petition claims that Grand Theft Auto 5 encourages players to commit depraved sexual acts and act violently towards women. Gamers are “given options to kill women by punching her unconscious, killing with a machete, bat or guns to get their money returned,” it reads.

The petition was originally designed for Target to stop selling GTA 5 but Kmart also decided to do so. It originally requested 50,000 signatures but it only took less than 40,000 for Target to realize pulling the game is in the company’s best interest.

“Please put ethics before profits and make a strong statement that you do not condone sexual violence, sexual exploitation or the abuse of women as ‘entertainment’,” read the petition.

TGT stock is down 0.4% Thursday afternoon. SHLD stock is down 2.8%.
