John Cahill has been named as the new CEO of Kraft Foods (KRFT).

New Kraft Foods CEOThe 57-year-old will succeed current CEO Tony Vernon when he retires on Dec. 27. Here are five things you should know about John Cahill:

  • John earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and an MBA from Harvard University.
  • He spent nine years with PepsiCo (PEP), including a stint as CEO from 2003 to 2006. Cahill was also Executive Chairman until 2007.
  • The new Kraft CEO has been with the company since Jan. 2, 2012 when he joined as Executive Chairman Designate. He’s been with the company ever since.
  • “John is a successful consumer products CEO who has run world-class companies, with the experience to identify and realize opportunities to grow Kraft’s brand portfolio and take the company to greater heights,” said Mackey J. McDonald, Lead Independent Director of Kraft Foods Group.
  • Cahill plans on taking a “fresh look” at the Kraft Foods business and will comment on it next year.

KRFT stock is up 5.14% Thursday afternoon.
