A Twitter (NYSE:TWTR) update that will change how the website’s direct messaging works has been launched.

The company announced on its blog that users can now change their account settings to allow anyone to send them private messages. Twitter users had to follow each other in order to send a direct message before.
Additionally, if users get messages from a big company or another large account that isn’t following them, they can now respond to that account. These settings will be automatically turned off but users can change them if they wish to do so.
Twitter is also adding a new Direct Message Button on profile pages on Android and iPhone. The company is launching these changes worldwide.
“We’re rolling out these changes starting today to all users around the world,” the company wrote. “And we have lots more in the works to improve Direct Messages on Twitter, so that the private side of Twitter is just as fulfilling as the public side.”
TWTR stock is down 0.1% Tuesday.
