Twitter (NYSE:TWTR) is rolling out a GIF search feature.
The functionality makes it easy for users to search for GIFs by keyword, and add them into a tweet or direct message you are composing with a simple click of the button.
When Twitter first hit the Internet in 2009, the website quickly became one the preeminent social media outlets in the web, but it lacked the tools to carry GIFs in its messages.
As of June 2014, Twitter caught up to the rest of the world and added a capability that allows it to show GIFs in a smooth and effective manner. Now, you can search for GIFs users have posted on the network.
“If you’re looking for the perfect cat yawn or dance move to express exactly how you feel, just click the new GIF button,” Twitter said in a blog post
. “You can search by keyword, or browse categories of different reactions like Happy Dance, Mic Drop, or YOLO.”
The feature is powered by GIPHY and Riffsy and it was launched today for select accounts. It will be available to everyone in coming weeks.
TWTR stock is up 6.7% Wednesday.
