Six Flags to Add Virtual Reality Roller Coasters

Six Flags (NYSE:SIX) is stepping up its roller coaster game.

Six FlagsThe theme park company announced that some of its rides will now feature virtual reality technology. “This will blow people away,” predicts Brett Petit, senior VP, marketing and sales for Six Flags.

Six Flags is repurposing nine of its roller coasters as ride systems with out-of-this-world VR experiences with immersive storytelling. For example, Superman the Ride at Six Flags New England in Massachusetts will take passengers on a hyper-realistic journey in the city of Metropolis.

The Superman VR experience will recruit passengers to help battle villain Lex Luthor, and it will also be offered on Superman coasters at Six Flags America in Maryland and Six Flags Fiesta Texas in San Antonio.

Six Flags is also launching New Revolution, a futuristic fighter plane experience where you battle a mothership filled with evil aliens. The riders are the heroes who save the planet from annihilation.

New Revolution name will be at Six Flags Magic Mountain in California.

SIX stock is up 0.7% Thursday.
