Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is the title of the new JK Rowling book.
The novel — which is the eighth installment in the series — was first announced back in February. Here are nine things to know about it:
- It is predicted by fans that the character’s age will now be 36.
- The first chapter will be called “The Boy Who Lived,” and it will feature the tale of Harry surviving a deathly curse.
- Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will be released on July 31, which is both Harry’s and Rowling’s birthday.
- The book is already available for preorder in Barnes & Noble‘s online store.
- It was also released as a play, which you can order on Amazon.
- The play is available at the Palace Theatre in London. The play was written by Jack Thorne, John Tiffany and Rowling, and it premiered on June 7.
- A bit of information surrounding the novel’s plot has been released, including the following quote on Wikipedia: “It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband, and father of three school-age children. While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.”
- “The word for these imaginative leaps of faith is empathy. That’s the magic practiced so affectingly and entertainingly in “The Cursed Child,” and it turns everyone in the audience into a sorcerer’s apprentice,” reads a New York Times review on the play.
