Audi Cars Launch Technology to ‘Talk’ to Traffic Lights

Audi is launching a revolutionary technology that allows its vehicles to interact with traffic lights.

The infrastructure (V21) integration system shares data from traffic signals to your car, including when a light turns from red to green. The technology will be implemented in 2017 Audi Q7, A4 and A4 allroad models, which are slated for a fall release.

The technology uses LTE data connection and Traffic Technology Services, Inc. — a technology company that offers information for connected vehicle application — servers. Real-time information on traffic lights from an advanced traffic management system help to make this a reality.

The system will also reveal how much time is left until a signal changes from red to green. The move will apply to certain cities and metropolitan areas in the U.S. only.

“Continuous innovation in connected car services and advanced driver assistance systems that enrich and improve the customer experience is at the core of the Audi brand and our collective future,” said Scott Keogh, President, Audi of America.

Audi has been making strides in advancing modern vehicle technology,

developing regenerative brakes in hybrid and electric cars that normally lose energy while braking.

The system replaces hydraulic dampers with electromechanical rotary dampers to normalize the compression and rebound — the up and down movement — of the wheels. The technology can generate up to 613 watts in exceptionally rocky roads.
