Tropical Storm Hermine 2016 is threatening Southeastern parts of the U.S.
Some believe the storm could be quite deadly so make sure you take the necessary precautions to protect yourself. Here are five things to know about it:
- Tropical Storm Hermine is expected to become a category one hurricane as it picks up speed and ferocity, making the first hurricane of such magnitude since 2005.
- Florida is expected to be the state that will be hit the hardest by the storm, while coastal North Carolina could also experience the full extent of the storm. South Carolina and Georgia could also be affected by the gusts.
- Many schools are closing their doors in anticipation of the storm, including dozens Tampa institutions.
- The severity of Hermine has yet to be determine, but it is currently moving north to northeast at 12mph with maximum winds of 65mph at its core. However, Thursday could see the storm rising up to 75mph winds, according to the National Hurricane Center.
- Florida Governor Rick Scott has declared 42 counties in the state as being in a state of emergency. The central Florida coast could even be facing risk of tornadoes.
- The magnitude of Tropical Storm Hermine are slated to be around three to five feet, but this number could rise to an even scarier nine feet.
Watch out for Hermine as it could damper some travel plans ahead of Labor Day weekend, or even during the federal holiday.
