The Cheesecake Factory Inc (NASDAQ:CAKE) is finally making its way to the Big Apple.

The Cheesecake FactoryOne of the world’s most decadent restaurant chains opened the doors of its first location in New York City today. The Cheesecake Factory has more than 200 locations around the country, but this marks its first venture into the world’s largest melting pot.

Queens Center Mall is the location of this restaurant, which includes more than 250 menu items, many of which surpass the 2,000-calorie mark, making it a perfect meal for those who want leftovers for the next day.

The Cheesecake Factory at NYC is at Elmhurst, at 90-15 Queens Boulevard. Besides carrying a large selection of pastas, burgers and entrees, the restaurant also includes about 50 different cheesecakes, many of which have more than 1,000 calories per cake.

The reason why this is the first time the company has opened a restaurant in New York City has to do with the cost of real estate in Manhattan. More than 50 people stood in line this morning as they eagerly awaited the restaurant’s opening.

The Cheesecake Factory already had several locations across the state of New York, but this marks the first one in the five boroughs of Manhattan. Westchester County and Long Island both had restaurants.

The company’s roots go back to the 1940s when Evelyn Overton opened a small cheesecake shop in Detroit. She closed its doors to raise her children, but followed her dream once again in the 1970s when she and her husband moved to Los Angeles and opened The Cheesecake Factory.

CAKE stock declined 3.1% Tuesday.
