World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) has suspended Paige for 60 days to a violation of the company’s wellness program.
Saraya-Jade Bevis — a former Divas champion who’s better known for her athlete name Paige — failed the program for the second time this year. The ban was announced by the WWE, which will be in effect immediately.
Paige’s response to the incident was one of anger, directly attacking the company for banning her despite the fact that she did not fail a drug test. “Kids..Please don’t get prescriptions or doctors notes. Not acceptable,” she tweeted.
She also suggested that the rules have tarnished her reputation due to her status. Her first violation came as she was in vacation with boyfriend Alberto del Rio when she was deemed to have taken the test too late.
Paige made an appointment with the random drug testing team, drove 200 miles to get there and was considered to fail due to the time in which she arrived. The wrestler has had a recurring neck injury that has not been properly treated.
Her father in the UK said she takes pain medication to relieve her condition, which he believes should be taken care of. He was also outraged by the ban, saying that WWE did not allow her to use pain killers despite the fact that she’s injured and wrestling is quite a grueling sport.
“To say i am pi***d off with the situation is an understatement, this is my statement i am not open to questions thank you for your cooperation,” he added.
The 24-year-old Norwich native was NXT Women’s Champion for 308 days, the longest stint ever by an athlete on top of this competition.
