Mattel, Inc. (MAT) Makes Curvy Barbie Doll in Ashley Graham’s Likeness

Mattel, Inc. (NASDAQ:MAT) has released a new curvy Barbie doll in the likeness of fashion model Ashley Graham.

The new one-of-a-kind curvy Barbie doll based on Ashley Graham was revealed by Mattel, Inc. at the Glamour Women of the Year LIVE summit being held in Los Angeles, Calif., on Monday. The company is celebrating Graham for pushing fashion boundaries and promoting “a message of body positivity, self-acceptance and female empowerment.”

Ashley Graham is a plus-size model that has been vocal is women accepting their body styles. The new curvy Barbie doll from Mattel, Inc. has her joining a list of the company’s “Sheroes.” Other on the list include Ava DuVernay, Emmy Rossum, Eva Chen, Gabby Douglas, Misty Copeland, and Zendaya.

“We need to work together to redefine the global image of beauty and continue to push for a more inclusive world,” Ashley Graham said in a statement on Mattel, Inc.’s Barbie website. “I’m thrilled Barbie has not only evolved their product, but also has continued to honor women who are pushing boundaries. It’s an honor to be immortalized in plastic.”

The new Ashley Graham Barbie doll from Mattel, Inc. comes after the company launched its Fashionistas line earlier this year. This line of Barbie dolls include three different body types: tall, petite and curvy. There are also seven different skin tones, 22 eye colors and 24 hairstyles for girls to choose from when picking out a Barbie doll from the Fashionistas line.

MAT stock was up slightly as of Tuesday afternoon.
