  • Alien Worlds (TLM-USD) — The best-selling video game Minecraft players will now earn Trillium
  • Illuvium (ILV-USD) — Could become the rare play-to-earn game that also connects with traditional gamers
  • Yield Guild Games (YGG-USD) — The NFT token could see new highs if the play-to-earn space keeps growing

Play-to-earn cryptos have gone mainstream over the past year, becoming a vital feature of the metaverse. Playing video games to earn non-fungible tokens (NFTs) or cryptocurrency with real-world value is why play-to-earn games have exploded in popularity.

By merging video games with financial technology, play-to-earn games reward participants with digital assets. As a result, gamers can invest in NFTs or cryptos that have the potential to appreciate.

According to the Blockchain Game Alliance report, 1.4 million unique active wallets interact with games daily, accounting for nearly half of the industry’s total usage. Game NFTs represent 20% of the $23 billion NFT trading volume in 2021.

Play-to-earn games can make for lucrative businesses amid the buzz around NFTs and metaverse, bringing in millions of players and investors. Market-tracking firm DappRadar revealed that investors’ interest in NFT-based games attracted $4 billion of venture capital funding in 2021.

With that information, here are three play-to-earn cryptos that could gain traction in the coming months:

TLM-USD Alien Worlds 52-Week Range: $0.0671 – $0.914
ILV-USD Illuvium 52-Week Range: $29.15 – $1,925
YGG-USD Yield Guild Games 52-Week Range: $2.16 – $11.50

Play-to-Earn Cryptos: Alien Worlds (TLM-USD)

Our first play-to-earn crypto is Alien Worlds. Launched in December 2020, it is currently the world’s most popular blockchain game, with roughly 11 million daily transactions by more than 700 thousand monthly active users (MAUs).

It is essentially a sci-fi adventure game revolving around a metaverse with NFT alien species.

The metaverse represents a simulated economy where players compete for Trillium. While players explore the seven planets within the metaverse, they create NFTs that offer tools, land or avatars. A player can use TLM-USD to trade NFTs with other players or win battles and missions.

Minecraft, the best-selling video game worldwide, will soon be able to earn TLM-USD. Analysts expect the new interoperability bridge between the traditional and blockchain gaming worlds will bring non-blockchain gamers onto the Alien Worlds metaverse.

TLM-USD hit an all-time high of $1.34 in April 2021. Yet, the altcoin has declined over 50% year-to-date (YTD). Its market capitalization of $92.5 million makes Trillium among the top 400 coins in the market.

Illuvium (ILV-USD)

Our next play-to-earn crypto is Illuvium (ILV-USD). It is an open-world fantasy role-playing metaverse created on the Ethereum (ETH-USD) blockchain, set to launch this year.

The video game is the first AAA blockchain-based one in the crypto space. InvestorPlace.com readers are likely to know that the AAA classification signifies “high-budget, high-profile games that are typically produced and distributed by large, well-known publishers.”

This play-to-earn game enables players to earn ILV-USD rewards for winning contests and tournaments. If the game lives up to its hype, it could also be one of the rare play-to-earn games that connect with traditional gamers.

Illuvium is expected to be in 3D with an open world. Players venture out across a fantasy universe, battling and capturing creatures known as Illuvials. These Illuvials are designed as NFTs. In-game assets, including Illuvials themselves, can all be bought and sold on the Illuvidex, the in-game NFT marketplace.

ILV-USD hit an ATH of $1,925 in Nov. 2021, but has since declined 72%. Moreover, the altcoin has fallen almost 50% YTD. Its market cap of $347 million positions Illuvium among the top 160 largest tokens in the crypto space.

Play-to-Earn Cryptos: Yield Guild Games (YGG-USD)

Our final play-to-earn crypto is Yield Guild Games (YGG-USD), a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO). Launched in July 2021, it invests in NFT assets and connects blockchain gamers worldwide.

The guild generates revenue by renting or selling YGG-owned NFT assets. As a result, owners to profit from their NFTs and other players to purchase or rent them.

Then, members can play using those assets and pay the guild a cut of their in-game earnings. The platform introduces yield farming to game economies while adding value to these virtual worlds.

YGG-USD is the native cryptocurrency that powers the Yield Guild Games platform. The digital asset hit an all-time high of $11.50 in Nov. 2021.

But, since then, the altcoin has declined by 80%. Moreover, the altcoin has fallen 60% YTD. Its market capitalization of $246 million positions this NFT token among the top 200 coins in the crypto space.
