Bezos, 49, suffered the kidney stone attack while at the Galapagos Islands on New Year’ Day. He was flown from the cruise to Baltra Island by a helicopter from the Ecuadorian navy. Once he got to Baltra Island, Bezos used his private jet to fly back to America for treatment, reports

USA Today.

Docotrs had stabalized Bezos prior to him leaving his cruise. He remained conscious during his trip back to America, but he was put on a drip, reports Mashable.

No surgery was required and Bezos has been reported to be doing better, USA Today notes.

Kidney stones are most often a collection of calcium that has formed in a person’s kidney. However, other types of kidney stones include struvite stones and uric acid stones. Kidney stones can pass naturally through the body, but those who do so are usually advised to drink lots of liquids and are given pain medications to help the process. If a kidney stone is too big to pass naturally, doctors can use  extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy to try to break the stone up. Large kidney stones can also be removed from the body with surgery.

The risk of developing kidney stones can be lowered with proper dieting.
