DirecTV (NASDAQ:DTV) is pulling its humorous Rob Lowe ad campaign following a complaint from Comcast (NASDAQ:CMCSA).
The Better Business Bureau said the Lowe ads were deceptive in some of its claims including that DirecTV has better picture and sound quality than cable.
The ads feature unflattering Rob Lowe alter egos including “painfully awkward,” “super creepy” and “meathead Rob Lowe. “Don’t be like this me,” read the ad. “Get rid of cable and upgrade to DirecTV.”
The company also claimed that it offered more sports programming and shorter customer service than rivals–claims it was unable to support.
DirecTV will appeal the claim that its ads are deceptive.
DTV stock is up 0.32% Wednesday. CMCSA stock is up 1.48%.
