Tesla (TSLA) has announced that its offering a referral program for owners of its cars.
The Tesla referral program is the first offered by the company and it allows owners of Model S to provide potential customers with a link. This link will net that customer $1,000 off of a Model S if they decide to buy one. It also gets the person that already owns one of the electric cars $1,000 in credit toward a new car, accessories or a service visit. Additional referrals will net more rewards, reports Bloomberg.
Some of the more exciting rewards for the Tesla referral program come when Model S owners get 10 or more referrals. 10 referrals will get Model S owners the right to purchase a special edition version of the Model X when it’s released. Getting 10 referrals in North America, Europe, and Asia will net the person a free Model X, reports
The Tesla referral program is CEO Elon Musk’s attempt to move more Model S sedans. He also hopes that the program will help information about the car spread via word-of-mouth. This could be used by the company to determine what areas have more interest in the electric vehicle and would benefit from a show room or retail location. The program will last until the end of October, Bloomberg notes.
