The SAG Awards 2017 — also known as the Screen Actors Guild Awards — are happening in a month and a half.
Here are 10 things you should know about what to expect this year:
- Sophia Bush and Common announced the 2017 SAG Awards at the Pacific Design Center in Los Angeles on Wednesday.
- The event will take place on TNT and TBS on Jan. 29, 2017 at 8 p.m. ET.
- The SAG Life Achievement Award will go to Lily Tomlin during the ceremony.
- Manchester by the Sea is leading the charge in TV with four nominations.
- Stranger Things, The Crown, Game of Thrones, Westworld and The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story each received three nominations.
- Fences — starring Denzel Washington — and coming of age film Moonlight raked in three nominations apiece in the film category.
- Six different movies got two nominations apiece, including Captain Fantastic, Florence Foster Jenkins, Hacksaw Ridge, Hidden Figures, La La Land and Lion.
- Mahershala Ali was the only actor to garner three nominations, including a supporting actor consideration for Moonlight, as well as ensemble cast nominations for Moonlight and Hidden Figures.
- About 80% of SAG winners go on to win an Oscar either in the same category or in a different category, giving that much more weight to the award.
- Netflix shows received a total of 17 nominations, including three for Stranger Things.
