September historically stinks. The media is really going to town with that notion. I read a Yahoo Finance headline earlier this week that said, “Why the S&P Could Soon Lose 10% Before You Even Realize What Just Happened.” I love Yahoo Finance. But that headline drives me absolutely crazy! Over the last 30 years, September has traditionally been the worst month for stocks. The Dow has been down in September 47% of the time over the last 30 years. The S&P is about the same, while the Nasdaq has actually been up 60% of the time. So when you look at the odds, it’s still a coin toss. And despite a rough first day, September has gotten off to a pretty good start so far this year.

The NFL kicks off its 100th season tonight. As it does so, the most popular sport in America sits on the cusp of a major transformation. All the major sports do. The games themselves probably won’t change much, but the way we watch and interact with them will. I’m interested as a sports fan, and I’m even more interested as an investor because it’s all about the money. This is only the second NFL season since the Supreme Court allowed states to legalize sports gambling. And I am more convinced than ever that we can make a lot of money as more states legalize sports betting.

The momentum keeps building... I know marijuana stocks have been under some pressure recently, but I see a major bullish catalyst on the horizon: The signals are flashing brighter than ever that marijuana will become legal in the U.S. What’s more, this game-changing development looks more and more likely to happen sooner than most people think. We’ve talked about the enormous implications for us as investors. I’ve told you that I believe select U.S. marijuana stocks are perhaps the best opportunity the market has to offer.

Have you seen the videos from the opening of the first Costco (COST) store in China this week? It was insane! Thousands of people showed up. There was a three-hour wait just to find a parking spot. Not to get into the store… just to find a place to park. It looked like a scene from the worst Black Friday crowd you’ve ever witnessed. People were throwing elbows just to get their hands on a rotisserie chicken. The crowd was so out of control that Costco had to shut down early. I can’t lie, there was a lot of entertainment value to these videos. But you know me, I couldn’t help but think about the investment potential.
