Reebok Faces Protest Over Rapper Spokesman’s Rape Lyrics

reebok 300x152 Reebok Faces Protest Over Rapper Spokesmans Rape LyricsA shoe company is facing some image issues following the revelation that a spokesman raps about rape.

Reebok — a shoemaker based in Canton, Mass., and a subsidiary of Adidas (PINK:ADDYY) — is facing pressure to drop spokesman Rick Ross because of his lyrics about date-rape, The Daily Mail reports.

In the lyrics to the song O.U.E.N.O, Ross raps, “Put molly all in her champagne / She ain’t even know it / I took her home and I enjoyed that / She ain’t even know it.” Groups have taken to protesting that the lyrics suggest that Ross approves of drugging and raping women.

Ross, for his part, says rape is not something he condones.

“I just want to reach out to all my queens that’s on my timeline, all the sexy ladies, the beautiful ladies that have been reaching out to me with the misunderstanding: We don’t condone rape, and I’m not with that,” Ross told a radio station last week.

A petition asking Reebok to drop Ross from its list of sponsors has been circulated by the women’s rights group Ultraviolet and has received more than 50,000 signatures. Reebok has not yet responded.
