According to a post on its website, Oracle acquired Bitzer Mobile on Nov. 15. Oracle did not reveal the terms of the deal. Bitzer makes security apps for organizations that have a BYOD (bring your own device) policy with regard to smartphones and tablets. BYOD policies have been adopted by more than half of European and North American business, TechCrunch notes.

Prior to its purchase, Bitzer had obtained $4.83 million in financing. Oracle indicated that Bitzer would be integrated into its Fusion Middleware products, but would continue to operate.

Oracle’s move comes as other technology players are scrambling to add BYOD security technology to their offerings, including IBM (IBM) which recently snapped up Fiberlink.

Last month, Oracle was criticized by an investor group over the size of CEO Larry Ellison’s compensation package.

Shares of Oracle were flat in Tuesday pre-market trading.
