10 Most Popular Diets of 2013: Pescetarian, Juicerexia and Others

Google’s 10 most popular diets of 2013 did not include Weight Watchers (WTW) despite the fact that it’s one of the most recognized diet plans out there.

The most-searched diet plans of the year included a series of diets aimed at helping people lose weight and cleanse their bodies of toxins.  Many of these diet plans gained popularity thanks to celebrities who backed them up and used before/after pictures of their own bodies to show their effectiveness.

Here are the 10 most popular diets of 2013.

  1. Paleo Diet – The low-carb diet helped that calls itself “the world’s healthiest diet [that] is based upon eating wholesome, contemporary foods” helped Christina Aguilera lose 80 pounds. You can read more about it here.

  4. Master Cleanse Diet – The liquid-only Master Cleanse Diet has been used by Beyonce and other celebrities to detox your body. However, research shows that a cleanse might not be the best diet option out there.
  5. Ketogenic Diet – This high-fat diet has been used to treat epilepsy and children who develop seizures at an early age. There are still questions regarding how effective the ketogenic diet is but there is reason to believe many who suffer from seizures could benefit from it.
  6. Okinawa Diet – The Okinawa diet has become one of the most popular diets of the year due to its ‘nuchu gusui’ (food is medicine) motto. Traditional healing practices and medicinal plants are essential to the Okinawa Diet.
  7. Omnivore Diet – Many of us eat omnivorous diets which include both plant and animal foods. This diet it can help avoid obesity and fight off heart disease, strokes, kidney stones, diabetes, cancer and other conditions.
  8. Fruitarian Diet – A fruitarian diet revolves around eating fruits and ‘vegetable fruits’ such as tomatoes and cucumbers. A lot of people claim it doesn’t work in the long run but you can read more about it here.
  9. Pescetarian Diet – A pescatarian diet consists of avoiding all meats except for fish. Avoiding meat means avoiding foods that pose a high-colesterol risk as well as heart disease while still providing the body with essential vitamins and protein.
  10. Flexitarian Diet – One of the most popular diets of the year is the flexitarian diet which combines the words ‘flexible’ and ‘vegetarian.’ This diet offers many of the same health benefits as vegetarianism but it also gives you the option of eating a juicy steak if you’re really craving it.
