Ford GMFord (F) says it has the top-selling card in the world, again.

The second-largest U.S. automaker contends that its Ford Focus is the best-selling car, topping Toyota’s (TM) popular Corolla line in global sales. According to data from industry research firm R.L. Polk, registrations for the Ford Focus jumped 16% between January and September 2013 around the world.

The Ford Focus saw registrations in China soar by 85% compared to last year. The Ford Focus is now the best selling passenger car among Chinese consumers.

Ford noted that Polk data calculated a combined 1.4 million registrations for the Ford Focus and Ford Fiesta occurred around the world between January and September 2013.

While Ford has trumpeted the Focus as the world’s best selling car before, Toyota has contested the finding. Toyota has previously claimed that some Corollas are sold under other brand names in some markets and are thus not included in Polk’s tallies.

F stock fell more than 1% in Monday morning trading. F stock has risen more than 14% over the last twelve months.
